Are You Taking Advantage of Facebook?

Facebook has become an essential tool for any business or organization that wants to keep up with the Jones’s. The problem with this new era of social media is that many people do not know how to correctly use the power of Facebook. Here are some of our favorite tips to be sure you are using Facebook effectively before throwing your business out to the social media wolves:

Create a Page, NOT a Profile

Many businesses create a personal profile to represent themselves instead of a page, a common rookie mistake. This is a good way to get lost in the Facebook cyberspace. Not to mention it is a violation of Facebook’s Statement of Rights and Responsibilities. Here are a few advantages of using a Facebook page rather than a profile:

  • A page allows anyone to like your page at any time
  • There is no limit on fan numbers, whereas there is a friends cap on a profile
  • The page administrator can review analytics to view your marketing effectiveness

Interact With Your Fans

People that like your Facebook page obviously want to hear and know about you. Reward them! The point of Facebook is social interaction, so be sure to answer your fans when they comment on your posts or post on your page.

On a related note, do not let your fans forget you exist by never posting at all. Neglecting your Facebook page is just as bad, or worse, than not having one at all.

Have a Personality!

You may have heard the old phrase “you snooze, you lose.” Well, it can also be said “make your viewers snooze, you lose.”

Boring is almost always ineffective as a marketing tool, and that same rule applies to Facebook. Give your fans something that makes them excited and keeps them interested. People often expect a smaller business to communicate in a personable way. Give the fans what they want!

Let your personality shine through using your Facebook page. The easiest way is to take full advantage of the polls, surveys, and other features at your fingertips when using a page.
