Hello! If you couldn’t have already guessed, my name is Allison Spence. I’m a new writer/content developer at MayeCreate. I’ve already posted a few blog posts that I hope you have enjoyed, and there are plenty more to come throughout the rest of the summer and into the fall. My writing gives you a little insight about my personality and sense of humor, but I think you should know more about who I am and why Monica decided to hire a young, crazy college student.
For starters, I’m a junior at the University of Missouri studying science and agricultural journalism. What better school to go to than Mizzou for journalism and agriculture? I’ll answer that- none. I’ll graduate in December of 2016, and I’m a little terrified, yet extremely excited to start my life.
Growing up in the small town of Troy, MO, I learned the importance of agricultural communication. I didn’t grow up on a farm and neither did my parents, but I somehow found myself involved in FFA in high school. Being detached from the farm life, yet still informed about agriculture gives me a perspective not many people in the agriculture industry have. I use this to my advantage and make myself a connector between the two worlds.
While most of the people I’ve met in college know me to wear boots, they’d be surprised by the other half of my fashion sense- tutus and leotards. I’ve been a dancer since I was 2.5 years old. I’ve done all types of dancing from ballet, pointe and jazz, to hip hop and tap. I danced competitively for many years, including solos, duets, trios, group dances and productions. I don’t dance as much as I would like anymore, but I still find myself back in the dance studio when I have free time.
Dancing definitely taught me how to take criticism and apply corrections. It also taught me who I am as a person, what real leaders look like and how I can use my knowledge and skills to assist my peers. I use all of the things I’ve learned from dance in my everyday life.
Boy, oh boy, are you in for a treat! I have two pet pigs named Russell and Rosie. Yes, they’re pets-potty trained and all! Both of them live with my parents in Troy. Rosie is a mini pig that lives inside with my family. Russell is a potbellied pig that used to live inside, but then he grew huge and got the boot to live outside now. It’s rather strange to have pigs for pets, but it’s definitely an experience!
Dixie is my little fur baby. She is a mutt that I took in last summer, and she is the best $50 investment I’ve ever made. Dixie is the best snuggle bug around and I can’t imagine my life without her anymore. She’s definitely my personal ray of sunshine!
I still have a year and a half left of college, so I’m not exactly sure what I want to do with my life yet. I know I want to do marketing and advertising for an agricultural company of some sort, but the rest of it is left open. It’s hard to have my life figured out as a 20 year old, but I think I’ve done pretty dang good so far. I can’t wait to see what life has in store for me!
