Like it sounds, this tool lets you quickly resize a selection of multiple images at once. Downloading the following program (it makes resizing a cinch).

Why would you resize your images before uploading them to your website?

To save time.

Generally uploading files you’ve taken with your digital camera on it’s maximum setting takes longer than uploading a file you’ve saved off of the internet on to your computer.  This happens because as image quality increases so does your file.  If you resize your photos prior to uploading you’ll save time by being able to upload multiple photos to your website faster or attach more photos to a single email.

To make the upload/send option work.

Sometimes your images are such good quality that servers may not interact with them in a friendly manner.  The server may have a cap on maximum upload or attachment size.  Resizing your images allows you to create manageable files for attaching to emails and uploading to your website.

Get started resizing!

Step 1: Download the program.

  1. Screen shot of the image resizer website. Go to the following website and click the download button. (http://imageresizer.codeplex.com/)
  2. Click the appropriate download for your system (32 or 64 bit). Not sure which you are? Visit Microsoft.com (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827218#WinXP) for help. (If you’re dare devil just download the one you think is correct and try follow the next steps.  You’ll be alerted if you’ve chosen incorrectly.  You can then backtrack and download the other option.)
  3. Click “I Agree.”
  4. Click “Save File.”
  5. Choose where you’d like to save the file, I suggest your desktop so you can find it easily.

Step 2: Install

  1. Go to your desktop, or wherever you saved the file and double click it.
  2. Click Run.
  3. It will ask if you wish to allow the program to make changes on your computer, click Yes.
  4. Click Finish.

Step 3: Resize your images!

  1. Browse to the folder containing the images you wish to resize.
  2. To resize one image right click on the image you’d like to resize and choose Resize Pictures.
    1. To resize more than one image hold down your shift (to select multiple in a row), or hold down control and click on multiple images to select more than one, then right click on a selected image and choose Resize Pictures.

  3. Select the size and options you’d like to apply to your images. And Click OK.
NOTE:  If you’re planning to upload images to your website consider setting the image width between 600px and 800px, this will allow viewers to see the details of the image and accommodate most monitor sizes.

  4. Your resized images will be saved in the folder with your original images.
NOTE: If you choose to resize the original pictures you will save over your originals, in most cases this isn’t a good idea, I suggest leaving the box unchecked.
