Hi! My name is Elizabeth, and one of the newest MayeCreators to join the team! I started in mid-May as a copywriter and social media coordinator. I’m a self-proclaimed word nerd, and I’m excited to bring that to work every day!

You Can Take the Girl Out of Kansas…

I grew up in central Kansas – literally, take out a map and point to the middle and you’ll be really close to my hometown – and stayed in-state for college at Wichita State. Yes, our mascot is a giant bundle of wheat. Yes, it kind of looks like Gordon Ramsey.

After graduation, I stayed in Wichita, working as a PR and Marketing Assistant in the city’s Arts and Cultural Services department. I also wrote part-time for a health and fitness blog, crafting hard-hitting pieces like “Exercises You Can Do During Your Bathroom Break” and “Your Comprehensive Guide to Greens.” Jokes aside, I learned a lot at both of those positions that I still use today.

I moved to Columbia in 2015 after a brief stint as a copy editor for the Topeka Capital-Journal. My now-husband, then-boyfriend Caleb, was attending grad school at Mizzou, and after a year of long-distance, we knew we had to be in the same city again. So, I came to Columbia, and we got married in 2017 in my home community theater!

If you’re involved in the Columbia music scene, you’ve probably met my husband. He’s a local musician, guitar instructor and Visiting Instructor of Fine Arts at Westminster College in Fulton. Our house is one big, fantastic tornado of creative energy, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

Speaking of Creative

When I’m not at work with MayeCreate, I can be found pursuing one of my creative interests: baking, embroidery or theater. Last year, I started as both the Marketing and Artistic Directors for Columbia Entertainment Company, a local community theater. It was a weird year to take on those positions, with the whole not-doing-live-theater thing, but I’m so proud of what we were able to accomplish.

I’m also a frequent onstage performer or backstage volunteer for CEC. In the last few years, I’ve appeared in productions of 12 Angry Jurors, Hairspray and Legally Blonde, and assistant directed a beautiful little play called Almost, Maine. I’ve been involved with theater of some kind since I was three, and it’s truly one of my favorite places to be, especially here in Columbia, where the entire arts community feels like one big extended family.

Sisters, Sisters, There were never such devoted sisters

I’m an active alumnae member of my sorority, Delta Gamma, and regularly volunteer with them. For the last five years, I advised the local chapter at the University, and now I’m moving into a Regional Leadership position. It’s my way of giving back to an organization that provided me with so much, including professional development, interpersonal communication skills and a greater sense of what it means to be a leader.

Putting it all together

All that to say, I’m excited to have the opportunity to apply my skills and interests to my work at MayeCreate! We’re going to work together to craft the best copy possible so you’re professional, polished and stand out from the crowd.
