Heyo! I’m Katie Guinn, the Online Marketing Manager at MayeCreate Design.
Wow, that’s a mouthful… But given my role is to fit as much meaning into as few words as possible, I’d say it pretty well sums up what I do.
Since I can remember, I’ve been fascinated with how the mind works, how people communicate, and with effective methods for bridging the gap between the two. I also have a dominant creative streak that I’ve always wanted to incorporate into my career.
That said, I considered pursuing a career as a Psychologist, but once I was exposed to the vast creative opportunities marketing provides, it occurred to me: marketing is an ideal combination of psychology and creativity—it incorporates the psychology behind the consumer buying process and applies creative techniques to bringing business’s products and services to those consumers. So, it’s the best of both worlds, as far as I’m concerned.
With an extremely available tool like the Internet at our fingertips, it’s no wonder businesses are taking advantage of it to build a brand for themselves and connect with consumers. This has made online marketing a prevalent industry by providing an incredible opportunity for businesses to grow and weave themselves into the fabric of their communities.
In short, I’m totally thrilled to be a part of it.
Aside from managing social media and online marketing campaigns for MayeCreate Design, I’m a wife to an amazing husband and mother to two incredible daughters.
I met my husband, Neil, in 5th grade, and we somehow knew even at that young age we had a special connection. Eventually, life took us each down separate paths, but we came back together in 2010 and were married three years later. He is my best friend and my true rock.
And just check out that mustache… It’s a real beaut. He doesn’t always sport that bad boy, but when he does, ya can’t miss it!
Our daughters, Ava and Emery, age 9 and 2 respectively, fill our lives with joy in more ways we ever imagined possible. My family is my motivator to be the best person I can possibly be.
So, a fun fact: I’m an identical twin. Another fun fact: I stole that line from Erika Payne’s July 2016 blog post “Meet Erika” because guess what…so is she. Oh, the fun we’ve had sharing silly twin idiosyncrasies and anecdotes from our lives as “other halves.”
Erika pretty much covered the long and the short of it in her blog post, but to answer any twin questions you may have about myself: My twin and I are two minutes apart (she’s older, in terms of time, not wisdom ;-)). No, we don’t switch places and probably couldn’t at this point…cause, well, look at us… No, we can’t read each other’s minds. And no, we can’t feel when the other’s in pain.
BUT, we do speak a “twin language” and communicate in frequencies not many can keep up with. We love to laugh. We love to sing (our harmonizing is darn-near perfect, given we’ve practiced singing together since the womb). We’re both huge into music and film and will gladly sit through countless marathons of Doctor Who, Gilmore Girls, and Harry Potter.
In August of 2014, a friend introduced my husband and me to rock climbing, and we’ve been obsessed ever since. Believe it or not, there’s a decent amount of climbing in mid-Missouri, and while we all have little ones at home, we’re out at the crag as much as humanly possible (“crag”=rock face). If the weather’s even half decent, we’re out climbing where we can.
I’ve climbed throughout mid-Missouri, at Horseshoe Ranch and Sam’s Throne in northwest Arkansas, and at The Cat Slab alongside Clear Creek Canyon in Idaho Springs, Colorado. Our list of future projects never stops growing.
For me, climbing is a sport that not only provides exercise and an excuse to enjoy the great outdoors, but it also teaches patience, acceptance, perseverance, and overall mental conditioning. Through climbing, I’m able to transcend self-imposed, preconceived limits to my abilities, both physical and mental. It’s something that shows me I can do more than I ever believed possible of myself. I’m completely addicted.
So, the name Katie Guinn may ring a bell for some of you, given I was previously the Office Manager for Tranquility Internet Services, MayeCreate’s former “brother” company, run by Monica Pitts’s brother, Travis (See what I did there?), from October 2013 to June 2015. But after the birth of my second daughter, I was presented with an offer I couldn’t refuse to work for an automated marketing company, and with bittersweet emotions, I moved on from Tranquility.
Through this transition, I was able to gain some traction in the marketing industry and felt I’d found my niche in the business world. Unfortunately, things aren’t always rainbows and butterflies when you embark on a new adventure, and what started out as an amazing opportunity ended up as as an overly demanding job, which was stunting my career growth.
With everything I’d learned, though, I knew I had something valuable to offer. I just needed the right vessel to carry me to success. Needless to say, after putting myself out there and networking my skills, I was privileged enough to be invited to join the MayeCreate crew.
And let me just say, this opportunity is ALL rainbows and butterflies. I’m so fortunate to be working with such an inspiring group of people and feel I can be my full creative self in this position. I’m extremely grateful to have this opportunity.
Thanks for taking the time to get to know me. I look forward to working with you!
