Columbia Star Dinner Train, a specialty train ride that departs from Columbia, Missouri has recently launched their new website, designed by yours truly. We first began working with Columbia Star Dinner Train by helping them make periodic updates to their old website.
Columbia Star Dinner Train is a luxury train ride with full course meals and professional wait staff. An array of distinct rides are scheduled for different times, with specialty rides during the holiday season. You can see pictures of the locomotives, meals, staff and much more on their new website: dinnertrain.com.
It started with a few updates…
When update requests grew from text and image changes to desired functionality changes, we approached owner David Tenny about redesigning and re-building their website. It was important to both us and him that the new site have a functioning calendar and reservation request form that was easy for Columbia Star Dinner Train’s target passengers to use. After all, it is all about the experience.
Before
Before, the website was comprised of dark backgrounds with reversed text and small navigation. A big lacking in the calendar department made it difficult to see when rides are available, making requesting revisions a bit taxing. A gallery of images that weren’t sized correctly for web led to long page load times and a poor viewing experience.

A large slideshow greets viewers on the home page with color photos of both the train and the experience. Warm gold tones and interesting textures lend a hand to branding Columbia Star Dinner Train consistently across media types, matching their brochure. A calendar of available rides is the main attraction on the Schedule page with simple forms on the event details page for easy reservation requests. Page content has been refreshed, re-written, or re-located so new users can find what they’re looking for with ease.
