After Steps 1, 2 & 3 you should have a pretty decent sized list of keyword options to incorporate into the content of your website. Now it’s time to really study the results of your search and hone down your keyword suggestions. Understanding how people are searching, what words they’re using, is very important for determining the best keywords for your website.

Be specific with your keywords

If you notice keywords that do not EXACTLY describe your product or service, remove it. You want your keywords to directly relate to what you are offering. Ask yourself, “Hey, if I were searching for my services, what keywords would I search with?” Do the keywords on your list actually represent what people are looking for when they’re looking for the product we’re describing?

We like to go back and compare the keyword list we created vs. the list compiled within the Keyword Planner. You may have found an important keyword with a super high monthly search that was not on your list. If you had not preformed your research, you would have missed it! Research is good.

Verify relevance and determine demand

After you’ve looked over you Keyword Planner list it’s time to make some decisions on which words, and how many, to actually add into your content for those SEO purposes.

PLEASE NOTE: Steps 2 & 3, 4 & 5 need to be repeated for each group of terms to determine what to optimize the page for and determine which words to use in the keywords metatag (more on that further down the road.)
