Our Creative Process

Breaking news: Local web agency discovers revolutionary concept called 'being organized'.

It’s a sickness, we’re obsessed with this thing called having a plan.

We can’t seem to shake this highly contagious “care factor” thing going around the office either. It makes us CARE about your website and want to get it done in the least stressful way possible. We probably care about your website more than you do. (Which is saying something, because you’re the one it’s currently inflicting pain upon.)

We probably care about your website more than you do.

HECK YA WE HAVE A PROCESS

Because we’ve had our fair share of misadventures since 2005, we created this novel little thing called a process.

You’re gonna love it. Our ever-improving yet flexible process allows us to maneuver from conception to captivating, avoiding common roadblocks that make grown adults cry into their keyboards.

You may have heard of it. It has due dates…and action items. Oh and we use a phone. Not just for texting (or listening to audio books), for calling. Don’t even get us started on that. Wait, we’re already started…too late.

Here’s how it works:

Process + Calendar = We still like each other after your site is done.

Because everyone actually knows what they’re supposed to do and when. SAY WHAT!?!

Now, before we get all nitty gritty on the process let’s talk timeline.

How Long Does This Actually Take?

Which works out perfectly because you have real work to do, and when projects drag on forever, they turn into disasters. You’ve changed marketing managers, added 14 new services, and nobody remembers what you originally wanted (ask us how we know). Our #1 goal is to keep things moving so you actually get what you asked for.

Here’s the deal, our timeline is actually REALLY short compared to most web companies. Those people promising faster? They’re either between jobs and about to ghost you, desperate because no one will hire them, or flat out lying.

Is that a challenge? Well then – heck yeah we can. If the project isn’t huge and you have all your ducks in a row ready to roll. But you gotta be ready my friend because it’s gonna feel like sailin’ down a baby oiled slip-n-slide and we are up to the challenge.

Our initial consultation gives us an opportunity to get to know your business and expectations from your project. We’ll discuss your target market, the purpose and budget of your website design and how it will function to reach your project goals. At the end of this meeting you’ll decide if you’d like a proposal or bid.

Based on what we uncover together, we’ll give you an estimate for the site or for our website planning consultation services. Sometimes, we’ll do additional consulting with you to figure out what you need. We are dedicated to being clear and up front regarding all costs and the specifics of the website. After all, we don’t want to waste your time or ours.

If you decide to work with us (thanks, by the way!), we begin with a kickoff meeting to nail down the scope of work and get all our ducks in a row before we start design and content development. We’ll outline in detail the steps we’ll take when items are due and who’s responsible.

You get to meet the real person who will manage your account, potentially FOREVER if we can help it. We’re structured with a Project Manager human who is your main point of contact. You have a person, and you get to know them; you have a relationship with them.

You’ll meet your designer and art director too. But they’re not the people you’ll usually talk to.

Those folks are designing and developing websites – they’re not talking to clients. For good reason. Every time they have to talk to a client, it’s like interrupting their workflow, and they, quite frankly, just don’t like it. They want to hang out in a cave, with maybe a very small dog on their lap, probably surrounded by a mountain of chocolate or Rubik’s Cubes.

Starting with the home page, we develop two options for your website’s look and feel. Once the home page is close to finished, we’ll mock up secondary page options as well. Honesty at this stage is key – your critical feedback ensures we build the quality website you deserve.

Shortly after completing the initial site designs, we begin content development for your website based on the method outlined in your contract. You can write your content, or we can write it for you. Either way, this is when it happens.

After you approve the look and feel of your home page and secondary page designs, it’s time for us to code your website’s template. Our templates are fully adaptive and adjust to display correctly on multiple devices, including mobile phones and tablets.

WordPress is your website content management system, which allows you to add and remove content, links, documents and photos on your site.

We create one composition for each page of your site that goes through one set of internal revisions. Next, we’ll have a meeting with you to review the pages and outline your revisions. You’ll sign off on final designs, and everyone high fives. It’s a good time.

We program the functionality throughout the site.

Once we have completed building your website, we conduct a one-on-one training session to teach you how to update the areas you’ll work with the most.

Once everything looks good and we have your sign-off, we launch your website online. This is also known as Take Live. Bust out the confetti; YOU’VE GOT A WEBSITE!

You can contact us when you need updates, and we’ll provide an estimate for the service. If you need updates regularly, you may choose to have a monthly maintenance package.

We enroll your completed website into our Safe Site Plan for a monthly fee of $24.95. Under this plan, we offensively protect the website from hackers and keep the software and plugins up to date.

If applicable, one of our fabulous MayeCreaters will run your website through a battery of tests to see what Google thinks of your new site and to make sure your visitors are utilizing it the way we anticipated.

Each year, we hold a complimentary annual review to discuss how your website is performing. We also introduce new Google standards (because they change as often as the seasons) and suggest improvements to keep your site on par.

We’re a web-focused agency in the Midwest with some of the cheapest cost of living in the US, so while we don’t design websites for free (as much as we’d love to, we do have to eat) for a firm with our experience, it’s darn affordable.

We listen to what you need and create a quote. So not surprisingly the cost of your site DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU NEED and it’s our job to help you figure it out. What’s even more awesome is we help you figure it out for free. That’s why we call them free consultations.

Stacy will basically blow your mind with how smart she is. That gal has been managing website builds longer than most people have even thought about having one. So you’ll start by talking to her (per step 1 in our process “getting to know you”).

Here’s the thousand foot overview.

Custom websites, think custom design, a boat load of content, learning management systems, shopping carts that type of thing – those start around $6,000.

Our most budget friendly build process is affectionately called a “template build”. It’s pretty magic, you get to pick from a library of customizable starter designs to speed up the development process. Those sites start around $4,000.

And for the “I can handle this myself with a little guidance” crowd, you’ll want to check out our Better than DIY option starting at $1,000. You choose from 16 starter designs, get professional customization help, and we train you to build your own pages with live support throughout the process. Plus you get 6 months of hosting thrown in because we’re nice like that.

If you’re too scared to talk to Stacy and just absolutely insist on getting a number on your own check out our Website Estimator App. You plug in what you need and it spits out a number. But seriously, talking to Stacy is FREE, and she only bites when she’s super hungry.
