Why keyword research is important for SEO
Search engines, such as Google, are defined as “resources like Google, Bing, and Yahoo that scan the Internet using keywords entered into a search box finding and displaying web pages that contain or are related to those keywords.”
What does that mean?
When you search on a search engine, millions of websites are scanned for those specific words. For example, if you search for “cleaning services,” the first several items in your results will be those websites who specifically include those words in their homepage content, subtitles and even URLs. And don’t you want your business pop up?
It’s important to do your research to see what the most searched keywords are and plug those into your content, and fast! No, not fast. Take your time, research and find the best keywords to optimize your website’s search capabilities.
Getting Started
In the following video we will guide you through the first initial step in Keyword Research: Brainstorming.
Before even opening your new Word document, seek to understand your services and demographic. Identify your target market. It can be helpful to research competition. Find out what they’re doing wrong, learn from what they’re doing right. Then, start your list in a fresh Word document and just go to down listing keywords regarding your services and business category.
Come up with at least 25 different keywords. Just let the words come to mind, don’t limit yourself. We will research and organize your list in Steps 2 & 3.
After you’re comfortable with your list, continue on to Steps 2 & 3: Using Keywords Planner for Ideas.
